Join us for Urban Co-Lab's emPower Hour!
The emPower Hour is a monthly speaker series which features different leaders and changemakers who are making impacts in their community and the world in innovative and meaningful ways.
- In conversational style, attendees are connected to speakers in an opportunity to learn about their journey and background, current innovative projects they are involved in, and lessons and skills the attendees can apply to their own life and work.
- The series provides opportunities for networking, professional development, and education, allowing participants to walk away more connected to other social entrepreneurs and more inspired to tackle the big issues ahead.
- Each month focuses on a different topic related to issues facing urban environments and the global community, including but not limited to: pollution, crime & safety, healthcare, diversity, transportation, civic engagement, youth, and art & expression.
The month of June will focus on Zero Waste with speaker Natalie Betts of the City of Austin's Resource Recovery & Economic Development Departments.
Forgoing the stereotype of traditional local government, Natalie Betts demonstrates the creative and unique ways city officials can tackle big issues. Serving as the Recycling Economic Development Liaison, Betts drives new recycling markets and green job creation that aid in the development of a zero waste environment. As part of the department, Betts has assisted in projects such as the Austin [re]Manufacturing Hub eco-industrial park to support local recycling manufacturers, the [re]Verse Pitch Competition inspiring small Austin entrepreneurs to address zero waste issues, the Austin Material Marketplace helping businesses sustainably and efficiently reduce their waste, and more.
Whether a social entrepreneur, local community member, or simply an interested party, Betts provides fresh perspectives to ongoing problems and lessons you can apply to your own ventures and daily life.
Free food and drink is available to all guests, including alcoholic beverages (beer and wine) to those over the age of 21.
While the event is free and open to the public, space is limited to ensure a conversational environment is maintained.
The event series is graciously sponosored by Namecheap.com!
