Join us for Urban Co-Lab's latest EmPower Hour!
This talk will focus on how Art and Expression play important roles in creating community. The discussion will begin with a presentation by speaker Kelley Worden, Executive Director of the local nonprofit Art From The Streets.
Art From The Streets (AFTS) was founded in 1991 to provide a safe and encouraging space for the positive spirit of artistic expression of those who need it most. For the past 23 years AFTS has been a place for creating amazing work while providing insight into the human beings who brought them to life.
Kelly Worden, the current Executive Dirctor of AFTS, obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Tennessee State University. Kelley worked for 5 years as a graphic artist post graduation, and then shifted her focus to volunteer work while raising her children. From 1997 to 2010 she held leadership roles supporting Canyon Creek Elementary School as the PTA fundraising lead, Fun Run coordinator, and Green Team leader. She also co-founded a local non-profit organization, Chicktime Austin (now HopeAustin), which works with children in need in the Austin community. In 2010, Kelley began volunteering with Art From The Streets (AFTS), became a board member in 2013, and most recently she was selected to fill the Executive Director position.
Whether a social entrepreneur, local community member, or simply an interested party, The EmPower Hour provides fresh perspectives to ongoing problems and lessons you can apply to your own ventures and daily life.
