GirlForward Refugee Services Orientation

  • Urban Co-Lab

We are GirlForward, a nonprofit that provides individual mentorship and programming for adolescent refugee girls who have been resettled in Austin.  This is an orientation session so that potential applicants for our Mentoring program can attend and learn more about our organization. Our goal is to provide as much information as possible about what we do so that we can find the most committed women volunteers who will be the best mentors for refugee girls.

Besomebody 1elevens are intimate, local events where diverse people from diverse backgrounds come together to share their passions.

The format is fast and furious. Eleven (11) speakers have one minute and 11 seconds (1:11) to share anything they are truly passionate about - an idea, an issue, a project, a cause, a charity, a problem, a solution, a question, an observation, etc - with the audience. The talks can be serious, sad, funny, quirky, tragic, triumphant, ridiculous or scientific… But they must be passionate.

Event schedule:
6:30 - 7:00pm - Meet & Greet
7:00 - 7:30pm - 1elevens's
7:30 - 8:30pm - Post-show Networking and Refreshments

Besomebody 1elevens benefit The Besomebody Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides experiential learning, skills training and job placement for people in need. Groups served include unemployed veterans, single parents, and at-risk youth. Donations are not required, but much appreciated. Donations can be given at event check-in or via #besomebody clothing purchases. To learn more about the Besomebody Foundation, visit besomebody.com/foundation.

Alright, Austin, let’s do this… One mic, one camera, one minute and 11 seconds of fire.

#besomebody.

  • Urban Co-Lab

Companies and products that emphasize the power of design are writing the future of business. InVision is the leading product design collaboration platform; used by 2 million people worldwide, providing an end-to-end platform that takes an idea from concept to code. Through early socialization of designs, building prototypes before embarking on the heavy lifting involved in writing code, teams can validate ideas and solutions through user testing and customer feedback. Teams can validate their ideas and ensure they're delivering the right solution from the get-go. This helps teams be more agile and collaborative.

Come learn about this modern approach to digital product design and development and see how you can leverage prototypes in your own work. Angela Chisholm is the Manager of Customer Success at InVision and will be sharing best practices for design collaboration, prototyping to validate concepts and overall creating a faster way to certainty. With past experience in program management as well, she'll share her wealth of insights around building successful digital products.
